Different users that are in different offices/warehouse with different printers (thermal or laser) and print different size labels (4x6 and 8.5x11) should have the ability to have their own label/printer settings saved to their account instead of the need to switch setting every time globally.

Please add the ability to assign specific print formats on a user-by-user basis. For example if a User A prints on a 4 x 6 thermal printer and User B prints using 8.5 x 11 labels. They should both be able to print in their own formats. Currently print formats are assigned to the account at a global level.

Allow different document options for different warehouses. For example, internal warehouseA wants to print 4x6 labels, yet 3PL warehouseB wants to print 4x6 (w/ packing slip) labels. Currently any changes to document options is account-wide.

There are a couple use cases for needing this. First, for us anyways, we operate a warehouse of our own for smaller shipments and we use a specific size of label with certain information on it for our needs. We also work with a 3rd party logistics provider who handles our larger volume however they have their own setup and labels which are different than ours. Also if we were printing labels for a specific client and wanted to do say the label+packing slip option using the label printer, we would need to change it globally for everyone vs. being able to worst case, move the orders to another temporary warehouse and print.

Having the ability to set the printing setup like label size / format, packing slip size / format, picking list size / format, order summary size and shipment manifest size / format per user would be a great feature. We ship from multiple locations and having a user utilize a different label and paper format / size would allow for greater flexibility for that locations job function. Please consider this

Some job functions in the shipping department for example handle general shipments or another dept. handles returns or another dept in shipping handles international shipments, or another specialty items. The general shipping dept. would use standard 4x6 labels and maybe 8.5x11 for packing slip, the returns dept could use a 8.5"x 11" label or split label that includes special instructions or details about steps to return and it could be included in the box sent back. The international department could only be processing international orders and would use another format. The specialty item dept could use a another format that combines 4x6 and 8.5x11. The general idea would allow for those particular departments to choose formats and templates specific to it. For use we have a staff member who is not at the shipping location and he receives products for Photography but uses 8.5x11 format to print shipping label along with additional info like packing slip to send either back to the supplier or for stock in the warehouse. Currently he has to generate a 4x6 only and 8.5x11 packing slip that is used for our general shpping. Adding the option to choose 8.5x11 for the packing slip with a custom template for him that allows for additional info on it would be very handy and help in communicating better. Simply put the ability to change the label, packing, picking size / formats along with a custom template to associate with the user's chosen options would be a great feature that allows for better adoption into a business workflow. We have used many shipping systems Ordoro, Shipping Easy, Endicia, etc and none of them have this feature. It would truly set you apart from the competition. Hopefully I am making some sense :)

Individual settings for printing by user would be a life saver for us! We often assign our shippers to "large volume batches" and "individual unique orders" especially during the holidays. For the "large volume" orders, they are usually large chunks of identical orders (ie; 100 customers that all bought the same 1 product - 100 identical orders) and we ship those using the 2 labels per sheet setup since we can get twice as many labels per sheet of label paper and the process goes faster/more efficient. For the "individual unique" orders (ie; Large priority orders with lots of varied items that require a lot more attention to detail) we use the 1 label on top half, packing slip on bottom half setup. Having to switch back and forth between the label print settings has been a huge roadblock for us every holiday season because it requires one group of shippers to trade off chunks of time with the other in order to print using the method best suited to their assignments.

this feature is urgent for our company as we are expanding to different marketplaces and have more then 1 person in charge of shipping we are thinking of leaving shipstaion at this time as this option is not available

This is crucial for us. We keep going back and forth between users and it's taking up so much time for us!

Just to let you know ShipStation, your competition, has already implemented different printing settings per user for accounts with multiple users. We would very much like to see this feature implemented into ShipStation.

This is crucial for our business as two different shippers may be working on two different types of orders at one time. One may need to print Labels and Packing slips together while another may need to just print postage labels. @shipstation, what's your reasoning for NOT having this option available for users?

Everyone that has voiced concern has pretty much said the same thing. I understand there are ways to work around this feature, but there isn't always time for that and it presents even bigger obstacles when a 3rd or 4th printer is added. I'd like to know if there have been any improvements on this because it seems to have been an issue for about 2 years now. Is it not a big enough concern for ShipStation to put effort into improving?

This would be a great feature. Please add it asap. Thanks

I'm with the OP on this issue, but as @wtully commented a while back, even the addition of "Document options" within individual ship-from locations would be helpful, as we ship from one user and multiple "warehouse locations", some being retail and some being wholesale. The different paper / label options per warehouse would be a real time saver, especially if it were under the same user.

What about adding specific setup for stores. Right now we have one store that we need to print a 4x6 packing slip and another we need to print a 8.5x11. every store should have its own set up option

Different printing set-ups for different USERS are a MUST, unless picking sheets can be customized to include barcodes, thumbnails, etc. so they look like packing slips. Having this set to the ACCOUNT only is not productive. This is crucial for our business as two different staff members may be working on two different types of orders at the same time. One may need to print Labels and Packing slips together while the other needs a custom label using a different paper/label size. Please enable this feature!

Unfortunately yet another user functionality request that will be ignored...Hey @shipstation, how about implementing this sooner than later?

I drop ship and I have different users that have different printers. Instead of creating multiple stores it would be nice for each user to print a label in the document size set to their capabilities.

I would like to add to this thread and idea. printer setup, 2 printers, but 1 printer for 2 layouts. For us, The thermal printer prints all single page shipping labels, but we use the HP laserJet 277 printer to print on 8 x 11 sheets; 1/2 page intl shipping labels and full page packing slips. Is there a way in settings to do this without having to change printer preferences and setup in the windows control panel? It would be GREAT if there could be assigned document setting to accomplish this.

I would like to see a way we could used different label setups based on the different store we have on our account

'@ShipStation Will you please review this again? I would give more votes if I could as this is a major flaw that hinders our operation every day. This has been "under review" since 2016 and no progress? As a community, we deserve to know what is going on and why this idea cannot be implemented.

Admin must be some bot, keeps posting the same **** for the last 2 years on the same topic. I think it comes down to Stamps.com having the control over over label templates, and not giving the users 2.x" due to someone having their funds invested in say... "competitive sectors". ********. I'll give this a try for a few weeks to see if something could win me over, because I love my Brother QL-700, so there better be something good, otherwise.. duces.

When you print documents from ShipStation, a printer dialogue box will display your printing options. These options are user specific and saved in your browser, so each of your users and each of your workstations can have different printing defaults. It would be great to have different document options for different users. Not all of our stores have a "label" printer.

  • January 17, 2019
We have three users but only one Thermal printer (4x6). We need a feature that would allow us to do one of the following: 1) choose a label template (or type) when we generate the labels or 2) assign a label type by user log in or 3) assign a label type to a shipping preset

For instance, we've found it would be useful under multiple situations to change print settings/format depending on the work station used. Practically this would look like Station #1 default printing packing slips as a standard 8x11 paper. Station #2 (user 2) would print packing slips to a laser printer with a size of 4x6. The reason for this is because we use Shipstation to perform multiple tasks in the many different departments of our company. Where packing slips might serve as a good sales receipt for eComm customers, laser printers would be more useful, economical and practical for company functions. Shipstation could defaulting to using universal print settings but offer an option to change that (under and admin) if end-user desired.
