Any update on this?

Any update on this?

I'd bet that since the Stamps.com buyout they have canceled this. Stamps.com sucks and doesn't care about actually making a useful product that people want.

Definitely a feature that I want to see built as well. I contacted support about it and they seem to still be working on it (their response below). "Our developers are still working on that feature. One of the goals for ShipStation is to move steadily into basic inventory management, and we hope to be releasing several new features for inventory in the coming months, including a feature to scan barcodes to verify the products. These features are still in development, and we don’t have an ETA quite yet, but this is certainly one of the feature which we hope to be releasing for our users."

We've been using SKULabs to check orders for our three stores. It was built around the concept of scanning item barcodes to ensure order accuracy. They have a bunch of ecommerce integrations, and you can check orders one by one or in guided batches. They also offer their own shipping label functionality, but that's optional if you want to stick with Shipstation.

Just simply being able to scan an item's UPC and search for orders that contain that item would be very helpful. The field is available on each product, but it's unsearchable, rendering it completely useless.

While I'm sure a lot is being worked on, I don't agree with the points of it being a "strange workflow" and/or "low positive impact". We pack and print a shipping label for all of our orders at the same stations. ShipStation already has a field for UPC. All we would want to happen is to add a logic that would require that each barcode in the order be scanned out or manually checked off before allowing a shipping label to be printed (or at least a warning saying "hey this order has not yet been checked/packed, are you SURE you want to ship it?"). The solution now is to use an entirely separate 3rd party system which doesn't even completely prevent you from just going right into ShipStation and sending the order out. Going to barcodes reduced our error rate into less than 1 per 1000, so it was disappointing to find that ShipStation lacked this functionality.

Mika, I had the same issue for shipstation for 3 years as of this Christmas. I use javascript to verify against upc and qty then iabol's api to return delivery time and cost and eventually a label. I choose the best method for delivery based on when the customer would like to receive it, 1,2,3, Ground or Economy. Most of the time, 1 and 2 day shipping can be sent ground and we save money and still getting it to the customer on their desired transit time. I would drop my homegrown solution if shipstation could verify by UPC/item# (some items don't have upc), show delivery times, sort by predefined delivery type which defines the transit time then sort that by cost (so the cheapest can be chosen). Its what the enterprise shipping software companies do, and it's what I did. I'm not sure why SS has so much trouble with these next level options unless they are being financed by an enterprise shipping software company and are only providing a solution for the niche small business market until they graduate to the next level and steeper fee.

Why would you consider this feature as "low positive impact"? This feature is extremely important in the shipping process. It is #2 voted feature on SS for over 3 years for god's sake.

Agreed with Ma.. Ship.. we totally get you want to roll out some WMS features for the long term strategy "I personally don't think that is a good idea", but anyways, if you could just add this simple item you would greatly improve your product to so many people. Why do the high up's (CIO,CEO) whom ever not see the low effort large reward here? Who is running the ship here. I could have a couple programmers knock this out in a weekend and i'm not kidding.

It's just a matter of time before someone else comes along and offers this feature at a competitive price. ShipHero was able to accommodate the "strange workflow". Be progressive and improve on your competitors' solution. I agree with MA and Nicholas regarding the "low positive impact" comment. You're downplaying your customers' need for this feature and there's only one end for a company with that standpoint.

I am now using http://www.groovepacker.com as an adjunct to ShipStation to scan and pack. It imports my orders from ShipStation and I can use a bar code scanner and a ChromeBook (or any other computer) to verify that we are shipping the right things. It is not perfect because it is possible to not run the order through GroovePacker and there is no verification that you have in fact scanned a particular order but it is has reduced our errors within a few months and I would not ship without it anymore.

It is pretty sad that SS is taking so long to come up with something so simple. SKULabs only came out a few months ago and they already have barcode scanning and picking, label printing, and a bunch of other stuff. If you don't move fast, you'll be left behind.

Dear SS, We need an update on this and we need it now, it has been almost a month since your last post about how this request is "strange workflow" when it clearly isn't. Can we get an ETA on the roll out for this feature update? We are also looking at other ways to get around this basic feature your product does not offer. Including other companies that seem to know how to "Get Ship Done". Just need an honest update from you guys and we need it now. As you may know for most of us the busy season is almost here! You may not understand what such a simple feature equates to on a post Black Friday day.. but it's a BIG deal. GET IT DONE!

I agree with Nicholas. We really need this feature for this Christmas. This feature has been flagged as "PLANNED" for over 2 years. If you are working on it, please give us an ETA or an update.

'+1 we would really like this!!

Hello, I ran across the perfect example for this. It is called "Picking Pal" from woocommerce unfortunately we are using Shopify and it does not integrate. If shipstation could mimic this function from Picking Pal it would make our shipping as close as 100% as possible.

Thanks for putting it in the planned list... When I read "strange workflow" and "low positive impact" I want to grab someone by the ear and drag them over to our packing counter. :~ We often ship boxes with 60+ items in them. If everyone shipped 2-3 this feature may move from 'essential' to 'really nice'. We bounce several times back and forth between "MOM" by Dydacomp (junk but can't find something for replenishment that is better) and ShipStation (love it). We export order from MOM to SS, and rateshop, then based on carrier and package type we go back into MOM and use their "Shippers Workstation" to scan verify the items from the "to be packed" into the "packed" side. Once this is done we have an actual box and actual weight. Back into SS we then create the box label (weight sometimes edited), then finally back to MOM to import tracking number and actual shipping charge from SS where MOM creates an invoice. Talk about 'strange workflow'. Ideally we would export to SS where we: rate shop, scan items (need ability to mark 'backorder' here, edit weight, and print label. Then export back to MOM for the invoice (which also does the inventory control, CC charge, replenishment if needed, backorder control...). That would be awesome workflow. Thanks for listening. Mike

Yes it would be great to scan a products barcode and have shipstation pull up orders containing that barcode

  • October 12, 2015
I agree that this is a very important feature (297 votes shouldn't be wrong.) We would use this feature to verify that the correct item is placed in the correct box, therefore eliminating the "you put the wrong item in my box."complaint. It would also help us save money, time and stress in the long run. The way we would like to see the feature designed is 1.) Scan the packing slip. 2.) scan the barcode on the item so that shipstation can verify everything is correct. Come on guys this feature request has 69 comments I cant imagine why you guys wouldn't implement it...

  • October 21, 2015
This is the single most important feature you could implement.

  • October 21, 2015
Agree, it's why I'm currently evaluating other products

  • October 27, 2015
Agree that this is the single most important feature you could implement & also why we are evaluating other products.

  • October 27, 2015
Forgot to add.. we would use this in our workflow just after printing packing slips/pick lists, when we pull products for each individual order. Only after we scan each individual item (as ordered) for each order would it then become possible to print the shipping label, unless we manually override or turn off the barcode item verification for that individual order. There should also be an option to enable or disable order-level barcode item verification completely. Thanks!

Like that's an interesting idea AB Tech. That would certainly make our shipping department more accountable for packages sent. Essentially, you're creating a failsafe that must be personally acknowledged to override. Smart.
