'@Admin (and everyone else interested, like myself) it seems that another company, Groovepacker, has gone ahead and created a cloud-based QC/Barcode scanning program, and they actually integrate with ShipStation via API, according to their site https://www.groovepacker.com/integrations/shipstation-barcode-packing-scan-verify Has anyone else tried out their software? I'd be interested to know if it's decent before I start any new implementation. @Admin - maybe ShipStation should just buy them out for their IP and avoid the time and hassle of developing it.

We currently scan the UPC of an item into the search and it brings up the order. This works really well for orders that only have one item but does not work well for multiple item orders. This has been something relatively new for us and I cannot even tell you how many mistakes this has avoided. So much time and money went into shipping errors with return shipping, customer service calls and much more. This has been awesome and I would love to see it built better and deeper into ShipStation

I'd like to have a process in ShipStation where using my scanner I can verify that i pick the right products. All my products have UPC bar codes. I'm thinking something like this: 1. I print all packing slips, with the order bar code 2. I grab one of the packing slips, scan its bar code 3. Order pops up, I can select to pick products, it shows all products on the screen. 4. I grab a product (based either from the list on the screen or from the printed packing slip) and scan it 5. The view on the screen decrements the qty for that item and I put the product in the box to be shipped 6. I continue until all products are put in the box 7. (optionally) I can print a small bar code to put on the box with the order number/bar code 8. I wrap everything up, seal the box, (optionally) put the small label on it to track which box it is. 9. I put it on the scale, create a label and (optionally) verify that I put the shipping label on the right box by checking the order reference/id on the small label (maybe scan it?) The small label is optional, I have that under another suggestion here, but I wanted to show how it would fit in here. If may not matter if you only have one box to ship, and if you do it all in order, but sometimes I grab the products from multiple orders and seal up the boxes before weighing and printing labels, so I'd like an extra step to verify I didn't mess up.

Pretty crazy that ShipStation has taken so long to get off the ground with this. Just in the time since the admin's last post, competitors have piled on features that are topping ShipStation in so many other ways. Skulabs has been fleshing out a ton of multi-channel listing and inventory features: https://www.skulabs.com/features/inventory i can make purchase orders through them and I can use barcode scanning for pretty much all of it! I feel like ShipStation is falling behind in comparison.

I can agree that perhaps the implementation of something like this could run into a "strange to SS workflow", however a QC (Quality Control) such as this at the time of shipment would be a huge positive impact! Workflow really shouldn't be overthinked, it most certainly would require a company have a proper set up to support the feature, but if added as an opt-in feature, could be added as a fairly simple QC check, just before a label is printed. Companies that would be set up properly to support this feature, would likely be mid to larger accounts, and could actually attract larger accounts. The workflow for this feature could go as follows: 1) Pick Products with custom barcoded Packing Slip. The order number as well as each ordered product identifiers would need to have barcodes. 2) Using SS's already built in feature, Scan the Order Id and review it in pop-up. 3) Add the QC check here. SS could have a barcode screen to pop up over the active order screen attempting to shipped. Shipper would than scan each product attempting to be packaged, and either send an error if the attempted item is not present on the active order, or show a verification (perhaps highlight the box green before emptying the box allowing the next scan). 4) Once all products have been verified, the scan box would go away and allow the user to continue choosing shipping options and printing label. If any other sellers (or SS) has any thoughts on this proposed workflow, please comment. Keep in mind, the feature will likely need to remain simple enough to have SS move forward with the integration. Thanks for consideration.

This is the #1 feature that we would wish was implemented. Totally agree with what Chad has to say here.

This would be awesome, especially when tided into inventory management. You can scan the UPC as it comes in to increase inventory automatically and then you can scan it as it goes out. i would also like the ability to scan SNs as well. We have to track serial numbers and currently that is not possible through SS.

This is literally the only thing i think is missing for me with shipstation. I love shipstation. I even recommend it to anyone i know that has any kind of ecommerce business. But this is the biggest downfall for now

of course it should be possible to activate and deactivate it. but in general having those function would have leave more happy customer and some co worker would still have his work, so totally behind the idea of scan check!

I have been using this feature since 1994 and could not operate without it! I found about 2 to 3% human errors without it. Those are very costly mistakes.

The ability to scan a unique identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN) within an order in ship station to quality Contorl/Pass an order. Right now you can bring up an order by scanning the order ID but there is no way to QC. When the order is scanned, if there was a way to scan each UPC that is supposed to be that given order and if a wrong product is scanned then it kicks out an error message, if a product is missed it has a status of "incomplete" if the order is successfully scanned in the status of "completed" The idea would be for further quality control within Ship Station instead of needing a 3rd party software or other shipping softwares.

Absolutely. We are currently paying $500 a month for SkuVault, primarily so that we have access to this feature.

We scan our order barcode from the packing slip to bring up the order. We would want to scan to verify right after we scan the barcode. Ideally, there would be a audio/visual confirmation when the order was completely scanned and ready to print. Ideally, the scan to verify would take into consideration bundle/kit skus, and require that all items in the bundle/kit be scanned individually. Some items are not able to be scanned, so we also need the ability to manually enter the sku, or select and confirm. We are a current ShipStation customer, and we are actively looking for a shipping software that has this solution, (and integrates with DHL Global Mail/DHL SmartMail, and Channel Advisor). If ShipStation adds this solution, we will likely not move our business elsewhere. This is an absolute necessity!

If you're just looking to eliminate packing errors by scanning items as they are packed you can do so with GroovePacker. Kits/Bundles are supported and it pulls orders from ShipStation with multiple workflow options. An audible buzzer and a big red X make it obvious to the packer (and everyone in the vicinity) that an incorrect item was scanned. :)

ShipStation, I must just not understand how complicated web-based software development is... It seems like SpaceX can literally build a spaceship faster than you guys to add features to your product. Don't know who is running your IT department but they need to get their head examined.

  • April 9, 2016
Dear ShipStation, Can we get an update on when this simple feature will be released? Your customer base must drastically miss-understand the complexity of web based software development, because other companies can literally build spaceships faster than you guys can turn out a single feature.

Just like having a box where you can enter your warehouse location, it would be nice to have this for whatever number you decide for your barcode. For example, most of our products have an Amazon FN SKU number on them because we send them to FBA. Other products we might want to use a UPC to make the barcode. We sell items that are handmade that don't have a UPC so maybe we just assign a random number for internal use to create a barcode.

paulstanger, Great idea paulstanger! I agree that the barcode shouldn't have to be a UPC code. While most of our products do have UPC, occasionally there is a product that doesn't. If you could assign multiple fields to compare against that would make this usable for so many other users. If Shipstation would let me choose the UPC field, SKU field, or a custom field. I could use this for all of my products whether or not it had a UPC. Jeff

Hi, everyone, thank you for all of your comments! Since our last update we’ve been busy with new partners (Tanga, Australia Post, and Stripe Relay are the most recent), 6 Weeks of Speed, request USPS pickup, Package Sets for multiple package shipments, and our own native inventory management to name a few features. We’re constantly working on many projects at one time, so while you may not see this particular idea turned into a feature, you may see another feature that may benefit you in our release notes. We’re still interested in turning this idea into a feature for all users and are researching the best way to solve the main challenges posted here. Thanks again for your patience and active comments! If you haven’t yet, please add your thoughts on your current quality control process today and what challenges come from it or bring up a topic not yet brought up like @paulstanger and @Jeff’s UPC vs SKU vs custom barcode comments.

When all products, I assume 300 items, were picked and left next to label printer. Someone has to either print all the labels out and find the matching item or use the scanning feature in ShipStation to scan order # and print out label one by one. If possible, label will be print out automatically after scanning the order barcode would help too. Or this UPC verification would help too.

This is a must have feature for professional shipping. It's almost impossible to ship 50+ packages every day without making mistakes in the products shipped (unless if you have just a few products). This feature is pending for more than 4 years, and it got over 400 votes. How can we make it happen? Please upgrade ShipStation to support this required feature.

This would be a major step in making Shipstation a fully capable Warehouse Management System for small businesses - in an arena where companies are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for the same features.

  • June 1, 2016
Our warehouse manager is keep asking me about this, we need this asap. Thanks

This is a major feature that warehouses big and small would benefit from. We ended up moving our whole shipping operation to Skulabs since they offer barcode scanning, shipping, and multi channel inventory in one place. It makes a huge difference.

  • August 8, 2016
We are currently in the process of moving to barcodes on all of our products, so this feature would be extremely useful for accuracy.
