ShipStation now supports serial number tracking. Products can be set to “Serial # Required,” serials are scanned for each unit at packing, and there’s an Orders by Serial Number report. It’s a great addition, but the scanned serials aren’t available in the packing slip template editor. The Items and Packages › Items fields include SKU, UPC, quantity, options and more, but no serial numbers.
Request: expose the scanned serial numbers as a Liquid variable on each line item, for example:
{% for serial in item.serial_numbers %}{{ serial }}{% endfor %}Ideally the serials would be available on both items and packages[].items, so multi-package shipments can list the correct serials under each box.
Why it matters: we’re a dealer, and many of our customers are businesses and government agencies that need serial numbers on the packing slip to:
- check in and verify shipments without opening sealed product boxes
- asset-tag equipment as it arrives
- keep a clear record for warranty and RMA claims
We already capture the serials in ShipStation, but today we have to send them to customers separately. Printing them on the packing slip would close that gap.
