Allow for automation rules to work on multiple item orders

Need the ability for the automation rules to see multiple item orders. So you can create logic that IF it includes this SKU and also this SKU it will process these rules. This should be able to be done for as many items in the order. The current automation rules do not work well if you have multiple skus that get sold together in a shopping cart.

Are you sure this works? This is exactly how I've set them up and they never process correctly. For example an order will have multiple line items. One line per SKU. I put Item SKU Equals XXXX and then add a second criteria Item SKU Equals XXXX and this never processes correctly. Please confirm.

My apologies Jared, I just ran a test and you're correct, it doesn't appear that the logic is set up that way. I'm going to leave this open to collect votes so that it can gain traction with the product team. Please keep an eye out here for any updates on progress.

Please listen to this request, long term it would be very useful to be able to have Item Name and Sky filters that work regardless of number of items in the cart. Much appreciated!

I agree. This would help streamline a lot of orders that we have to create many rules for.

We were hoping to utilize automations to put orders on hold that contain certain keywords within the item names. Having multi-item orders included would make things much easier since we currently have to manually place them on hold as they are not affected by our automation rule.

This is a big issue in our workflow. We like to base a lot of our shipping decisions on what SKUs have been ordered and for some reason shipstation doesn't iterate over ever item ordered when using automations with criteria that specify a SKU. For example: If I create an automation based off of a SKU, say "Item SKU contains abcd" the automation will only trigger if the first item ordered contains 'abcd' in the SKU. If someone orders 2 items and the second item contains the SKU 'abcd', the automation won't even fire. This really seems like a coding error, as in, the developers simply didn't think of this use case when coding the shipstation application. Development oversights like this could easily push bigger small businesses to another shipping solution

Basic feature that you would think would be included in this software. Automation rules that can't check if an order contains an item SKU or item name is ridiculous.

Would really appreciate this functionality as well. I have automation filters that are supposed to go in effect "if item sku contains" but if the item sku in shipstation reads "multiple items" it doesn't get filtered.

This should be top priority!!!!

We would like this fixed as well, as our goal with automation rule logic is to carve out orders with certain SKUs. But this breaks as soon as the order contains more than one item. One workaround we found is to tag the products (and by that token, the order) that you want to include/exclude from a rule and look for the tag. But this introduces WAY more order tags than necessary especially if your inventory is sizeable.

Definitely agree with this needing to be a top priority. It results in a lot of shipping errors not having the correct tags applied to multiple item orders.

TOP PRIORITY!!! I thought I was doing something wrong, then I saw this. I cant believe my eyes how is this a thing. Automation only works for single items, then if a customer orders 2 different items then no automation rules apply. Guys I really hope you fix this it has been 2 years since requested. Thank you in advance for listening to your custoners.

When will this be available?? This is crucial for any business that sells multiple skus! We sell multiple sku orders daily, and when you are doing 100 to 1000 of those a day, it causing too much EXTRA work, which means extra payroll

How has this not been fixed yet? This is not a "potential improvement", this is a glaring bug within your software that needs to resolved asap.

This is a VERY high priority for us as well

I'm floored this isn't a feature. I just want to apply an automation rule based on whether or not a specific SKU is included in the order, not matter how many line items there are. I'm already looking at other software options because this is just ridiculous. I haven't need this feature in my many years of being a ShipStation customer, but I finally ran into this roadblock and it's a critical issue affecting our daily workflow.

3 years since requested :(

This needs to happen ASAP.

Ugh. Just spent 2 hours trying to figure out why my filter wasn't working for multi line item orders and finally it looks like it's just not implemented. Really ugly that something that seems like it will 'obviously' work isn't documented in the UI somehow. Maybe an easy way to add this functionality is to add an "apply to any line item" option.

OMG! This is ridiculous that this feature is not already supported. Please, please have the ability to apply automation rules to orders containing multiple order items. Its too time consuming to have to manually do that

  • May 3, 2020
Agree! Please help Ship Stations, this makes automation pointless for most of us. I think the GOAL is always more than one items on an order....

  • May 10, 2020
AI technology aka machine learning would be a great tool and game-changer for this challenge... I really hope shipstation invest in a proper solution.

Top Priority here as well. Multi-SKU orders are very common for us, where size and quantities of each then become the driving factor for box selection. I am currently having to isolate weight ranges for box selection but this is not ideal, as it becomes increasingly difficult the heavier the package gets, where there is much more SKU type and quantity variability.

Probably 70% of our orders contain multiple lines. The automate rules where one of the reasons we chose ShipStation, but for use the just don't work. Why can't they detect if an order contains a SKU if there is more than a single item in the order?? It's such an important feature and the automation rules are severely limited without this functionality. We also like to be able to automatically split orders too (based on SKUs within an order. Can't do that either.

How do we get the status of this issue updated? The last update was 3 years ago. There's got to be a way to make this bubble up to the top so that Shipstation sees it again. This is also one of my top priorities in Shipstation because most of my orders contain multiple items, therefore I cannot perform automation rules in any reasonable capacity. Without the ability to match items in multiple item orders, all of my processes are manual and if all of my processes are manual, I'm not really saving operational costs by using Shipstation.
