Customizing Carrier Drop Down Lists

As Shipstation is adding new carriers the list of carriers in the drop down lists is getting so long that it now requires scrolling to access popular carriers like UPS. This is really cumbersome when updating shipping information from a drop ship or external shipping process. How about either suggestion carrier based on the tracking number (which would also increase speed) or at least allow personalized reorder of carrier list or even turn off carriers not used by users in preferences.

When manually marking an order shipped, there is a long list of carriers that we never use. A settings option to remove and only keep the carriers we actually use. 4 on a drop down menu are much faster to choose from than 30.

Currently when posting tracking information to an order, for externally generated orders by our shippers, we must either use bulk import or manually "marked shipped". One of the ways in which you can save us a tremendous amount of time is to allow us to enable/hide carriers from the Drop down menu. By doing so the drop down menu will be shorter and take less time to choose among the "desired" carriers that we use all the time. The attached image will illustrate what we are looking for.

The carriers that we currently use are: Fedex USPS Ontrac UPS

Hey @rolando r global teck, we're connected to all of the carriers you listed. Are there services with those carriers you're not able to access in ShipStation?

  • December 1, 2015
We are definitely NOT interested in all those other carriers. We only ship with Ontrac, Fedex, USPS and UPS. All we want to do is "hide" those other carriers on the drop down. They take up valuable real estate when entering orders and slows us down. If you can allow us to just "hide" the carriers we are not using you would help speed up our daily tasks of entering tracking details on ship station. Thanks.

Right, your main methods of shipping are through OnTrac, FedEx, USPS, and UPS. You can connect each of these carriers directly to ShipStation by clicking on Account Settings > Shipping > Carriers & Fulfillment > Add a provider account Have you found specific OnTrac, FedEx, USPS, or UPS services that aren't available in ShipStation that's causing you to mark your orders as shipped?

I was the one with the original request. Just to clarify for that purpose. The carrier list I am talking about is the one you get when you manually update a shipment using the "Other Actions" drown down from the order screen. It would be nice to either be able to custom sort those so that the mainly used carrier can be on top or find a way to remove some options for carriers that are never used.

I don't think we are on the same page here. We are perfectly fine with the carriers we have. We don't want to change anything with our carriers. We can ship with all of them just FINE! Have you looked at the image that we uploaded? All we want to do is "hide" all other carriers, from the drop down menu (see posted image), that we don't use. That's it.

  • December 2, 2015
Agreed. We should be able to remove or hide unwanted carriers when manually entering details in "other actions" tab.

Thank you for the updates, @meldner and @rolando! I understand your workflow requires you to mark orders as shipped and the carrier list can be lengthy and in the way if you’re doing this often. It’s my goal to make sure we’ve gone touched all of the necessary bases (what works, what doesn’t work, why) so the product team will have all the necessary information to make a decision. The first thing is to take a step back and help me understand what's causing the main issue here: mark as shipped. For example, is there a particular reason why you prefer to use OnTrac for your mark as shipped orders instead of adding them as a carrier to your account? --Does this make sense? I'm not looking to change how you operate, I'd just like to understand it better.

ONtrac and UPS are not our main carriers so the problem is not ONtrac nor UPS. We only send out a small number of shipments every month with them...I would say no more then 10 per month. The rest of the almost 600 shipments per month are divided up between USPS and Fedex. What I would recommend that would help you capture the details you seek is a quick 5 minute call. This will also reduce endless emails that get lost in translation. You can reach out to me through the number on our account. Just ask for Rolando

We update about half our orders from multiple exterior vendors that drop ship items for us. So that is why the long list of carriers is a pain because it requires scrolling to UPS. So not only is UPS is an issue, but to improve speed and accuracy to be custom select the list of carriers in that drop down list improves the overall workflow.

In addition to what has already been suggested, it would be really helpful for us if we could maintain a list of our own carriers that we could then select from the "Mark as Shipped" screen. For example, we use local delivery couriers (e.g. one of them is called K&H Couriers). When I go to the "Mark as Shipped" screen, I'd like to be able to select "K&H' as the carrier and input their tracking number. I realize this won't be integrated in any way, but that's fine. Currently, the only option i have is to choose "Other" as the carrier but then it doesn't allow me to specify any further details about which carrier i actually used.

We are after EXACTLY that functionality and 100% understand it would not be maintained in SS. THAT said, to make it easier for the developers, maybe we could just have a settings page that allowed us/(anyone) to select which ones were displayed (helping "hide" others. As well as add our own to the list that had no options to update marketplace, but WOULD allow us to email our customers. Thank you, David K at Growers House

Has the SS dev team been working on this? We ship out 200-300 items weekly and 25% of those are dropshipped direct from the manufacturer using a local freight carrier. We would like to add this carrier and their tracking link along with the other features discussed here. We spend entirely too much time on the phone with customers complaining that their tracking email says it was shipped via "Other". The tracking number below it becomes irrelevant. If this feature is not planned for the future, we will not be able to continue using SS.

I would like the ability to create and manage custom carriers. I know that SS concern is the ability to have a tracking link work though. I would like to be able to select from a bunch of Freight Carriers that we use often like YRC, Estes Express, Roadway, etc. Shipworks works around this by when the user selects "other" for the carrier, it provides a blank to input the carrier name. Then the carrier name at least gets transmitted to the customer. Currently, I am entering the Pro# with the carrier name behind it like this: 037-987633--ESTES - then I select "other" and mark as shipped when processing drop ships. Also, this thread started over two years ago . . . guess that shipstation is still "reviewing our request", but don't worry, we'll hear back from them when a decision is made.

I would love the ability to only have our selected carriers listed in the drop down menu. We ship a lot of packages USPS and it would be great not to have to scroll to the bottom of 40+ shipments a day just for this one feature. It's quite time consuming and we aren't even in our busy season. I know this is an old post, hoping that it gets some attention!

hello we use those carrier very famous in Canada: Fasfrate . Estes . Quebec Billard Express . Transport Guilbault . Speedy Express

  • June 13, 2019
Here, here! Looks like this is a very old and long time issue that really should have been dealt with long ago! I use only 3 carriers from the USA on this list and have to scroll to the bottom every time! The ability to customize the list would be a feature that I'm sure most everyone would use. Please, please, please make it happen soon! We would really appreciate it!

  • June 19, 2019
I would like to request that Estes be added as a carrier. In addition, please consider a way to filter the carriers so that only the ones we use appear.

Good idea! It would be wonderful if we could also add custom carriers with link to their tracking pages since from what I see here there is pretty much no way ShipStation could keep up with a list of ALL shipping options available the country! We use ChitChats for orders that we mark as shipped manually and it's a real hassle to include the tracking number and proper link for the confirmation email for those orders. https://chitchats.com/tracking/#########

  • July 12, 2019
'@Emilie Fournier Jalie -- It's possible to modify your email templates to accommodate for this. It would require you to use a dedicated ChitChats email template and to apply this new template to your order before your create the label. When you use mark as shipped and fill out the tracking number, the tracking number would complete the rest of the URL. You would need to add this to your email template: chitchats.com/tracking/[tracking #]

'@ShipStation Thank you for the suggestion. I tried your suggestion but the editor won't let me add brackets in a URL... I tried editing in html but it doesn't work either... Here is the href i used: What am I doing wrong?

Hello - can you add some custom carriers to the drop down when manually marking something as shipped? The option of choosing "other" does not work

  • May 14, 2020
I would ADD the ability to "add" my own carriers as well! In other words I don';t want less, I want more! I use carriers manually that aren't listed and the "other" option is of little help to customers who have no idea where to track their order. So a completely customizable list of carriers would be ideal and would cover all requirements both ways! The ability to check on/off integrated carriers so they show up or not, the ability to manually add carriers (along with carrier tracking URL), would cover every scenario I can think of right now?
