First, I want to say that I love the recent improvement allowing us to assign specific items to individual packages within a multi-package shipment! This is a fantastic feature, and I think there are two additional enhancements that would make it even more valuable.
1. Automatically Print Assigned SKUs on Each Package's Shipping Label
Now that ShipStation allows us to assign specific items to individual packages, it would be incredibly helpful if the SKUs assigned to each package automatically populated (or could be assigned to) the REF fields on that package's shipping label.
For example, if an order contains five different SKUs shipped across three packages, each shipping label would automatically display only the SKUs assigned to that particular package.
I understand that SKUs can currently be added through Label Messages, but this doesn't dynamically reflect which items are assigned to each individual package. Connecting these two features would eliminate manual entry, improve warehouse efficiency, and help ensure the correct products are packed and shipped together.
2. Automatically Populate Package Dimensions from Assigned SKUs
Another fantastic improvement would be having ShipStation automatically populate each package's dimensions using the dimensions already saved in the product's SKU information.
When assigning an item to a package, ShipStation could automatically pull that item's saved shipping dimensions into the corresponding package fields, rather than requiring us to enter them manually or via scale.
For businesses like ours that ship products of varying sizes, often across multiple packages, this would be a tremendous time-saver and help reduce shipping errors.
Why These Features Would Be Valuable
The new item-to-package assignment feature is already a great step forward. Integrating it with shipping label references and saved product dimensions would make it significantly more powerful.
These enhancements would streamline multi-package fulfillment, reduce repetitive data entry, improve packing accuracy, and make the entire shipping process more efficient.
I would love to see ShipStation build on this excellent new feature!
