It would be nice if you could preview a label without generating or purchasing. Sometimes our team wants to customize the label format and view the layout but currently the only way to see your changes to a label is to process an order to shipped, purchase the label and then void the shipment.

Functionality to preview labels without purchasing

Welcome to the community! We are thrilled you've joined us.
You absolutely can create a preview label. To do this, navigate to your Printing settings > Printing Setup > Document options for the label. You can then see and print a preview of the label. In case you are a visual person like myself, check out this screenshot!
If you change your store's default label option to your new custom for a moment, you can use this method to print out that test label.

this is not what they were asking. They were asking how to see a preview of the label before purchasing the label, meaning right before they click the purchase a label for an actual customer they want to see what that label will look like before paying. Your method will create a standard label. That is not the question.
