Live rates need to show all options for customers

A huge part of showing live rates to customers is for them to be able to see, in a transparent way how much shipping costs, especially compared to our free shipping tiers.

By default, shipstation seems to have opted to show only the cheapest rate to customers using because "similar options are available".

So, first of all, UPS Next Day Air is not a "similar option" to USPS.

Second of all, it is not up to *shipstation* to decide what our customer wants, it is up to our customer. Some people prefer UPS because they live in a rural area, some people need priority mail. Showing only one rate because someone at shipstation decided that is the only way it can be is not good for us our or customers. What is strangest about this is that it seems like someone worked to implement this and not give the option to turn it off.

Please allow us, the business owners to decide whether the true decision maker, the customer gets to decide what they prefer for live shipping rates.

I agree with this, there should be a way to turn it off so all rates show.

Two years later?  omg... I feel really stupid for setting this entire program up only to find this out.  Absolutely terrible.

Hello @emeray!

I have talked to the developers, although this is not currently on our roadmap. An alternative would be to configure checkout rates at Shipstation. This article may help you update your checkout rates. If you need more help on top of the article, don't hesitate to contact support@shipstation to help you with this process.

We have marked this as a feature request.

Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

@CaraAdmin This article just reinforces the same terrible "feature". Merchants do not have the ability to show rates and carriers of their choosing, and it is costing us customers and sales. Tell the Dev team to let go of the control and let merchants choose whats best for their customers. Cant believe this is still an issue.

Any update on this?

UPS ground and UPS Next Day Air may both be 1 day transit time to Ohio, but one is guaranteed and the other is not.

When a customer needs a part to keep their business running they will pay extra for the guaranteed option even if the transit time is the same. I wonder if UPS knows that shipstations setup is costing them a  LOT in lost revenue.

“Same issue here. My express options are hidden every Thursday through the weekend because the transit estimates count the weekend. Please add a setting to show all rates.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your feedback! I completely understand why you'd want your customers to have the final say on which carrier handles their delivery—especially for buyers in rural areas who have strong preferences for UPS vs. USPS, or those who want to pay more for express shipping over the weekend.

To be completely transparent, we do not have plans to change this default behavior, and this is a current limitation of our live rates engine.

Even if you split your shipping services into separate, individual Checkout Rates (like putting Ground in one option and 2-Day Air in another), the rate engine still compares all active rates against each other. If the calculated transit times or prices land too close together—which frequently happens over weekends—the system will still flag them as "similar options" and only display the cheapest one.

Because we don't currently have a toggle to bypass this "similar options" filter, many merchants who require full carrier and rate transparency at checkout choose to use their shop platform's native carrier calculators and rely on ShipStation purely for post-purchase fulfillment.

I know this isn't the solution you were hoping for, but I want to be upfront about how the live rating logic works so you can set up your store's checkout effectively.
