When Insuring packages, the insurance amount should print on the individual package label

 

For example, and this has happened to us…

 

If we ship 10 identical packages, but each package is insured differently, how do I distinguish which label goes on which package. I don’t want to put the wrong label with the wrong insurance amount on the incorrect package. But if the insurance amount was printed on the label, I could correctly identify which package it belonged on.

    While ShipStation has a Label Messages feature that allows you to print custom text or order-specific references, we do not provide an insurance field replacement option for these messages. Unless you have one of your custom fields show the insurance value. 

    There is a possible workaround you can use to match the correct labels to the correct packages: use your packing slips.

    You can customize your packing slips in ShipStation to dynamically display the insurance amount. Before packing, you can print the packing slips, match them to the corresponding labels, and use the packing slip to identify which box is which.

    Here is how you can add the insurance value to your packing slip:

    1. Go to Settings (gear icon) > Printing > Packing Slips.

    2. Select the packing slip template you want to edit (or copy an existing one to customize it).

    3. In the template editor, you can insert the HTML/CSS field replacement variable for insurance: [Insurance Amount] or [Insurance Cost].

    4. Position this field in a highly visible spot

    5. Click Save.

    This way, you can print your labels and custom packing slips together, look at the insurance amount on the packing slip, and easily match the correct label to the correct box!
