Ive spent a lot of time looking into this type of pack verification software. It's not cheap and doesn't look nearly as user friendly as ship station. I would have no problem paying twice what I pay for shipstation now, and would love to be a beta-tester for anything you guys come up with. Here are my thoughts on how it should work: Have an additional tab for pack verification on the right side of the screen under order information. When an order is selected the items show up in this section with 2 buttons at top. The first would be "SELECT PRESET", and would allow you to scan your box / packaging to choose a preset as opposed to selecting from a drop down list. This would be very useful with current version. My list is getting long. Id love to add more options, but it is already confusing. The second button would be "START VERIFICATION". When this button is pressed the background of all items turns yellow. There could even be columns or boxes beside each item showing (Item Order Quantity) ||| (Current Item Count) As you start scanning / checking off items, it changes the quantity count for that item. When the quantity scanned matches the quantity ordered, the item background turns green. Any additional scans would turn background red. There could also be a scale integration to double verify scans by having to place each scanned item on the scales before proceeding. (Similar to self checkout in stores) When all items and quantities are correct, 2 buttons would appear at the bottom of the tab allowing you to either save the verification and print a packing slip / pack verification slip, or move to the next tab and ship the order. Most important is the option to save or record this information. Adding the ability to save which presets were used with each order, and run reports for this would make tracking shipping supplies a lot easier. I currently have about 15 presets, each representing a type of box. If I could open shipstation and see which boxes had been used, it would save hours a week counting supplies, and prevent me from running out.

Please make sure that this is an 'option' and not a 'requirement' to ship :) Our QC system already requires every product to be scanned before it is flagged as ready to ship. That already prevents us from shipping until the status is set. However, if we can do this from inside ShipStation, we would consider changing our workflow, but it would require the ability to set the UPC code on a per SKU basis (as our SKU and UPC do not match), and the ability to have multiple UPC codes per SKU -- as we may have a substitute product that has a different UPC, but is functionally identical - with the same SKU.

How close is this to being implemented?

I would love to be able to have ShipStation go into a specific "mode" for this, so that we could streamline our pick and pack processes. "Pick Scan" Mode: Our picker would be able to turn on this mode in ShipStation and scan each packing slip. After scanning a packing slip, ShipStation automatically opens the order into a "packing slip" view of the order. Our picker would simply scan each item as its picked, and visually verify on the screen that item get "checked off" (highlighted, check mark, green light, etc.) Once all items are picked, ShipStation pops up a green notification in the notification bar that says "Picking complete for order # 1234567 for John Doe". The screen immediately advances to the packing slip scan ready screen. "Pack Scan" Mode: A person on our packing team opens ShipStation in this mode and scans each packing slip for each fully picked order. When the packing slip is scanned, the order pops up on the screen in "packing slip view" so each item and quantity can be reviewed. At this point they perform any Quality Control/Assurance on the order. Next, they scan the order one more time to print the shipping label. This particular mode solves our need to have shipping confirmation delayed when printing a label (see http://support.shipstation.com/forums/126593-request-a-new-shipstation-feature/suggestions/3186630-allow-option-to-delay-marketplace-notifications-an) If you implement the different modes in this way, please limit or eliminate all interaction with the computer or keyboard. We want this as simple as possible! If there is configuration involved (like making a scan of an order in Pack Scan mode go to the Loading Dock, or Ship Immediately), please make that configurable in global settings or as a one time option that is set when entering this mode.

This is a very important feature for our business, we need to find ways to reduce the errors in picking the wrong item. Being able to print the part number (SKU) and order # in barcode format on the pick list would be a great help.

This is good. Add to it the ability to scan Serial Numbers into the system!

Yes please

We NEEEEEEEEED this

Is there an ETA for this yet?

  • April 24, 2014
Looks like this has been in the works for a full 7 months...is there an ETA on when this feature will get built? The only option right now it to pay SKUVault to do this...they want $2,000 to integrate and $150/month, which is ridiculous for such a simple feature. This is something that we need and if if we cant get it as our sales increase we will unfortunately have to look at other platforms. If ShipStation can't get to it right away...what about striking a deal with SkuVault? Or, as work on it and charge us an extra $5 a month for this feature right now so recoup your development costs. With 133 votes and 34 comments I cant image how many other businesses want this feature. Its something that is critical to all businesses shipping and surprised it isnt already done.

I don't think Shipstation really cares about adding this feature. It's not that difficult to implement. Sure it might not be something the can do in a couple minutes, but definitely should have it handled in months. I've been working with the guys at ShipHero, who are developing a program that will do all of these needed functions, it still in getting tweaked and bugs worked out. However,I find it interesting when I bring up an issue or feature request it is taken care of in days, if not hours. I really doubt that Shipstation actually has any developers working on adding features, if at all in the company. And that doesn't make them unique, it seems a lot of SOS companies really don't have the ability to build upon their product.

Thanks, looked at shiphero and they dont integrate with magento, my shopping cart platform. I am going to lok for others though b/c i cant run a business without that barcode.

Yeah, ship hero is still small and limited. I'm not trying to steer people there, but show that it is possible to do, and they are able to implement changes and add features quickly, something that ShipStation cannot seem to do.

ETA on this???

Lots of people waiting for this. Only option for this simple fix is a costly integration with one of your partners. In grand scheme of things, sku/barcode is only a font. So why can't you just pull the sku and just have it show as a barcode? Anyone have any other ideas or other shipping apps we can use that does this? Love ship shipstation but as I grow I can't use it bc this will be too timely to manually input each item.

This is also a feature we're looking for. More comments might help to raise this feature's priority.

You can create a customer packing slip with scanable upc code to verify unit. we do that for our custom sku number. We also have a custom inventory system. If your insterested let me know Chiman leetec@gmail.com

Here's what we have, we have a custom program to scan unique sku numbers or barcodes into location. This skus or barcodes are then pulled using packing slips from shipstation. No more excel headache and expensive inventory software. And on top of it all you can scan unique barcode into inventory versus a fixed skus like everyone else.

'@chiman, I'm interested in learning more about your custom solution. Can you give me more details? Thanks in advance

So most inventory management software out there is for identical SKUs and update quantity. This system is totally different, where you can add unique skus without the hassle of inputting all the item details. Just a simple sku number with item location. Then a method to remove this sku from location.

If your selling unique items on ebay and amazon this unique sku method may work for you.

I was looking for a solution similar to what has been described here to help with accuracy and inventory. I started using the Groovepacker beta a couple months ago and it's quite good. It's pretty straight forward, nothing too fancy, focusing just on inventory and QC scanning for packing. Not a replacement for an order manager but the barcode scan-to-verify is well thought out. I don't know that it would work for all situations but it was easy for us to implement. I'm using shipstation, magento and selling on ebay and amazon. I print my packing slips with Shipstation and import the orders into GP each day from Magento and Ebay just prior to shipping. The order number is scanned from the packing slip which opens the order in GP. Each item is scanned and packed and I'm prompted for a tracking number. I run the shipping label from ShipStation and copy and past the tracking number back into GP where it's saved. It was a real treat to see shipping errors virtually stop. Since we've begun using it we've gone from roughly 2 errors a day to 2 errors total - meaning since starting two months ago we've had a total of 2 errors. So far so good. Needless to say it was worth barcoding the skus that we didn't already have barcodes on. The beta is free but it's invite only, you can submit a form on their site to apply. google "groovepacker beta barcode"

This feature is what we have been looking for. It could be implemented very simply, imo and this is how it could work: Have the option to make the SKU on the invoice a barcode or show both. Have the ability to enter a "Receiving Mode" to input the quantity of the product received either manually in a computer or by scanning the barcode of the product and enter the inventory. Then, when an item is picked, simply scan the barcode on the invoice with a confirmation "beep" or green light and the item is deducted from your inventory. In addition, having a double scan is ideal where you scan the invoice barcode for item ABC and then scan a shelf tag or the UPC code on the item to verify it is ABC. If you scan the invoice barcode item ABC and you then scan shelf code or item UPC of item XYZ you get a "bonk" sound and red light showing this is the incorrect item. If we had this feature, we would be set to go at our company!

We signed up to use Groovepack in beta as well. It is very simple to use and worth looking into.

Groovepacker might be an option, but it will be at an additional cost. The necessary data is already in ShipStation (in most cases), all it would require is the interface. I really hope this gets moved into development.
