The ability to take advantage of USPS Merchandise Return Service and have an option to print a return label with every shipment or selected shipments and not have to pay for the postage unless the customer uses it. I believe this is available through API only and there may be a form you have to submit to USPS: https://www.usps.com/business/merchandise-return-service.htm

Is this in the works? We're a rental business. Most customers return the product at the end of the rental period but about 30% choose to pay the balance owed on the product and keep it. Because of our long rental period (2-5 weeks), we're unable to request a label void and refund within 10-days of creating the label. Might be a deal breaker for us...

It would be very helpful if we could email non prepaid shipping labels for our returns so that the customer will return the item the same way it was shipped... Which will be the best value for them as well for us if we decide to credit them.

The bigger problem is weight. When we send a prepaid label based we are required to provide a weight, however if the customer add there own packaging or etc then the label we provided is useless.

Would like to include printed return labels with outgoing shipments that aren't charged to us unless they are activated.

This would be great. It would be nice to be able to have a label go out with every order. It is easier for the customer and it is what most of the large online retailers do

I know it's a challenge to do this (since you cannot get a USPS Tracking Number without postage, right????) - BUT, I'd still prefer the option to able to NOT give free return shipping postage. I really just want a central system to send out RMA labels - SS is great as it will pre-populate everything, create the PDF, and send the email.

For many customer returns, we want to create a non-postage paid return shipping label to email to a customer so as to have the customer be responsible for paying the postage for the shipping. Using current Shipstation functionality, there is no way to do this. We'r'e having to use USPS Click N Ship instead for this purpose. It would be much better to have Shipstation provide for all our shipping label needs.

I wonder if you guys could partner with Express1 and do this under a "blanket" account - as you do for the Commercial Plus Pricing. When the customer mails the item and Express1 sees the charge hit their account, they then debit our account. (I think this would work - I hope not all packages have to go through the same PO for the permit). Obviously, Express1 needs to make a profit in this - but it would be well worth it versus the eventual savings.

We feel it would be very helpful to have the availability of creating a RMA for a customer who is returning a product. When we pay shipping for the product (customer receives free shipping) and the customer returns it, or a customer wants to return a product outside of the satisfaction guarantee period, it would seem appropriate for the customer to pay the return postage costs.

I have a MRS account it is $800 a year, but it doesn't require you pay for shipping until item arrives. This saves lots of money from people who never return the item although you have paid the shipping.

  • December 4, 2013
Could you tell me what an MRS account is? And how it works.

  • December 4, 2013
The way it works is you print or send the customer a label and it acts like they postage is prepaid. When the item gets to the post office they weight it and charge the postage against your account. You can either put money on deposit with the post office or you can open a CAPS account that lets the post office debit your bank account. You can also track the shipment just like any other. The advantage is if you don't know the weight of items no need to worry, also if the customer never uses the label you are not charged.

Yes! A feature like this would be extremely helpful.

  • February 6, 2014
This is an essential feature for any company that sells clothing online. The advantage of having the easiest and streamlined return process is huge in this business and having a return label ready to peel and stick onto the original packaging is the keystone. This is a sticking point for us. We love Shipstation and really need this feature to continue to grow together.

Please please please please

yes we really really need this.

Great to hear this is started (and I didn't even use my votes)!! Now Endicia is offering the service as well and since we already have Endicia integration, it might be easy to add this feature. http://www.endicia.com/landing-pages/pay-on-use-returns Like most things on Endicia, it's easy and intuitive. It would be great to print the return label along with the packing list on the same sheet, like the pros do...

This is a great idea, especially if you can work a deal where we don't have a pay a subscription to use it.

  • July 16, 2014
When will it be available?

  • January 13, 2015
We create pay-on-use return labels for every shipment we send out. We want to give customers the option to print their labels at home/office. Please add the ability to check a shipment as requiring the label be emailed to customers (not every customer will want an emailed label, potentially). Thanks!

It looks like there is already an automated rule that can be put into place to utilize the Endicia pay on use feature within Shipstation: http://help.shipstation.com/customer/portal/articles/1675225-how-can-i-automatically-create-a-return-label-with-my-shipment- The one drawback is that it is automated to only work where the return label is output when generating the outbound shipping label. This won't work for our process, as generating the outbound label is the last step in our shipping process, and shipments are already packaged up in full and ready to go out the door by the time outbound labels are created, but, may be helpful in other areas.

Endicia currently offers pay on use return labels for USPS but you have to do it through their dazzle software. Maybe now that stamps.com is acquiring Endicia maybe they can make the feature work with shipstation. P.S. it does cost 50 cents per label, whether it gets used or not but there was no $1,000 annual fee as far as I know.

Currently we only have the automation option to create FedEx and UPS return labels with Automation Rules. We'd like to have the same functionality extended to USPS.

Hi there! I am in Canada and use Canada Post for shipping. Similar problem, I can't print return labels to add to the shipment. We sell recyclable water filters, and with each delivery we send a sticking return label so the customer can return this to us for recycling (great for the environment, clients and business!). We moved to Shipstation and this feature is not available. Everything else is amazing, but we do need this feature to keep on growing! thanks!! A.

Need this feature! I would happily open a USPS account and pre-ill it if necessary if a customer uses one of our pre-printed return labels.
