Hello Amazing Community Members,

We have some pretty exciting news to share with you all, and we’re thrilled to be the first ones to tell you. We’ve added improvements to the “Split Ship” feature  that will make utilizing this feature is more seamless than ever.

In our research, we found that almost 50% of ShipStation users have needed to create multiple shipments. With this data in mind, our team went to work to make this feature even more accessible.

The new updates to this feature will:

  • Allow you to split orders into shipments from not only the order’s detail page but also from the orders tab directly via a pop up window.
  • Give you the ability to see and differentiate your different shipments for the same order in the orders tab. Once a shipment has been split, the order tab will show (1 of 2) or (2 of 2) next to each shipment.
  • Make it easier to move order items into new shipments by using a drop down menu next to each item.

These improvements also set the stage for us to continue improving our split shipment capabilities and consider some long-requested features.

This new version of split ship will roll out to all users over the next few weeks.  We will continue to share more information here as we get closer to full release.

Let’s get ship done,

It’s baffling to me that a company whose only business is to provide shipping SaaS has managed to muddle up the split shipping process. That like many other features of the recent “upgrade” to ShipStation has only made shipping more complicated and time consuming for our staff. But to declare this point “we found that almost 50% of ShipStation users have needed to create multiple shipments” so far into the new release demonstrates how disconnected the development team at SS is     So we wait for 3 weeks for SS to catch up to its user’s needs. It has us looking for another provider because my staff complain about the new release constantly and it’s slowed productivity which costs me $$.

Hi Erin,

That is great news, but for this upgrade to be added to our account. Do we need to pay for this upgrade, or request it in order for it to be available for us?

We are in need to not only a good splitting process, but we tend to need ONE order to be shipped to multiple locations. will we be able to edit the split and the addresses stay in each split order or do we have to still manually change as we split the order?

Hi @Mediflow1 ,

Thank you so much for being a part of our community and for your question.

This will be added automatically for all accounts and will not incur an additional fee. This is simply an upgrade to the existing Spilt Ship functionality. I know that we are rolling out in waves but intend to see this rolled out in the next few weeks.

Hopefully this information helps you out!

Hi @cphipps

Welcome to the ShipStation Community! We are so happy to have you joining us here!

This is a really great question. I am not sure off the top of my head, my instinct is that this part was not changed yet. I am going to do some investigating and get back to you with any information I find out.

Hi @cphipps

Thank you so much for your patience while I was investigating.

This is not something that will be addressed with this release. However, I have been told that we do have a future release planned that will address this and allow multiple shipments on an order to ship to different addresses.  We do not have an ETA on when to expect this yet but the moment we do, we will make sure to share this.

Hi Erin,

I was so over joyed about the improvements of the ShipStation that has a New Split Ship Functionality.

After all this announcement was about 3 weeks ago. Is there any updates or a launch date when this will become available?

Hi @Mediflow ,

My apologies for missing this comment.

This new Split Ship feature is being deployed this week. If you haven't already seen it, you should have access by the end of next week at the very latest.

Hi @Manager-Erin ,

Split ship on the website is great and makes shipping easier.
When will the API get an update to take advantage of split ship?

This is an improvement from the transition into v3 but few things that would be extremely helpful:

Bring back hyphenated orders:

when you've got multiple packages that have been split going to the same recipient that have similar contents matching which label goes with which packing slip is tricky. In v2 the hypenated order numbers showed up on packing slips and could be placed on the labels which added clarity for fulfillment staff and as far as I can tell its not possible to add the "(1 of 4)" language on shipstation to the packing slip or label (If there is a way to do this please let me know!).

In split ship, bring back functionality to remove quantities of items already assigned to a package:

the new split ship is pretty helpful if you only have a 2 or 3 packages but we have some large orders that require us to split into 5+ packages. This interface becomes really difficult to use at that number of packages. In previous iterations of split ship any items assigned to a package would be removed from what was visible and left to assign. This would be extremely helpful to have back.

Extra packages with no contents:

This just seems like a bug. If a package is created as a part of the splitting process (before clicking save) that doesn't end up getting used it still shows up as a package with no contents requiring you to combine back with the last package that does have contents.

Is there any ETA for the feature that would allow updates in Shopify to be reflected in Shipstation after an order has been split shipped. As per your own forum (https://help.shipstation.ca/hc/en-ca/articles/15081054768667-Shopify-Update-Modified-Shopify-Orders ), you do not currently have this capability.
