Creating a return label not associated with an order

We sometimes have to send customers return labels not related to orders previously shipped on ShipStation.

The existing process is cumbersome and confusing: click on Rate Brower -> start creating a fictive shipment from your location with fictive package info, choose a carrier randomly, select a random rate, and then you get to click on the "Configure Label" button. There you can check the "Create a Return Label" checkbox and begin creating the Return label normally. At this point it is unclear what happened to the first shipment you were fictively creating first. You hope not to get charged by the carrier for it..

It would be way more practical to have a button somewhere under Orders tab that would bring the user directly to the Create a Return label screen.

I hope it can get tweaked soon

Hello @labrecquev ,

Thank you for being a part of our community and for your feedback.

Currently, the method you are describing is the only way to create return labels for orders not processed within ShipStation. We appreciate your feedback!

Hi @labrecquev , when you click "Create label" in the rate calculator, not actual shipment was created. It's just a button to go to the next step. So you don't need to worry about getting charged twice for your labels.

I think Shipstation should make it not mandatory to go through entering zip code -> check rate before proceeding to create a label. Most of the time you just need a label regardless of the cost.

I agree, this process sucks.  There should be something way more obvious and straight forward.  I have to search how to do it every time.

Hello, @flogrown!

Currently, there are no planned updates to the ShipStation return process on our roadmap. However, if that changes, we’ll be sure to update the community.
