USPS Package Type Default Not Saving

windowfilm

Looking for help. A few years ago when I set up my website, I set up products in ShipStation and Choose the wrong package type for one of my products. So every time one of these products gets ordered I have to manually change the product type in shipstation prior to printing the label. I have made the change and then chosen the option to Save the current configuration as default several times but it never takes. I also made sure in the product set up that the correct package was chosen. Despite all of this, the package type still comes up wrong every time. How do I get this fixed?

Hello @windowfilm!

I see that you reached out and spoke with support about the issues you were having with updating your Package type. Here are some of the problem-solving steps taken to resolve this issue.

If anyone else is running into a similar issue with package types not applying correctly, here are the steps you can follow to get things updated and working smoothly:

How to Update a Productโ€™s Default Package Type in ShipStation

  1. Open the Product Details
Head to the Products tab in ShipStation and open the product you want to edit. You can do this by clicking the SKU or double-clicking the product line in the grid.
  2. Go to the Shipping Tab
Once you're in the Product Details screen, click on the Shipping tab.
  3. Set the Default Package Type
In the Defaults section, choose the package type you want to use. You can also update the default service or confirmation options if needed.
  4. Apply Changes to Open Orders
If you want these new defaults to update orders that are already awaiting shipment, ensure that the 'Apply changes to open orders' box is checked.
  5. Save Your Changes
Click Save to lock in your updates.
  6. Verify That the Package Type Is Enabled
If the package type doesnโ€™t appear in the list, double-check that itโ€™s enabled for your account.
Go to Settings > Shipping > Packages and confirm the package type is selected.
If itโ€™s missing, it may not be supported or may require activation for your account.

Automation Rule Fix (If the Issue Is Rule-Related)

If an automation rule is setting your package type, you may need to update the rule itself:

  1. Go to Settings > Automation > Automation Rules
  2. Click the three dots next to the rule (e.g., โ€œSample Kitsโ€)
  3. Select Edit
  4. Update the package type to Large Envelope or Flat
  5. Save Rule
  6. Click Reprocess Automation Rules to apply the update to existing orders.

If youโ€™ve tried all these steps and the issue persists, it may require further investigation from support@shipstation.com.
