Creating Label – "Insurance cannot be purchased without an Insured Amount"

Hello everyone,

I’m facing an issue when trying to create a shipping label via the POST /labels endpoint. The error message I receive is:

"Create Label Error: Insurance cannot be purchased without an Insured Amount."

I would like to know which attributes are mandatory to successfully use this endpoint. Specifically, do I need to include an insured amount even if I don’t want to add insurance?

What I don’t understand is that in the package object, I’m correctly including the insured_value attribute with the following values, as specified in the documentation:

  • currency (string)
  • amount (int)

I’m also setting the insurance_provider value.

I’m wondering if I might be missing an attribute or if I’m misnaming the insurance-related fields.

Hello @lionel!

Thank you for sharing your issue in the community! It looks like support was able to assist you with testing and successfully printing labels—I am glad to hear that! For any API troubleshooting, contacting support first is always the best approach.

For anyone else who might run into this issue, the solution was to disable the insurance settings in ShipStation. This prevents the API error 'Create Label Error: Insurance cannot be purchased without an Insured Amount' from appearing.

Thanks for working with support on this request!

Happy Shipping!
